And so it was that on a sunny bank holiday Monday we went on a flat hunt in Clapton and ended up not flat hunting, but sipping coffee and eating cake in 119 Lower Clapton. It was a much better way to spend a bank holiday.
This bright, airy room gives you space to breathe. The interior is the right side of minimalist : glass from floor to ceiling on the front, simple white walls and ceiling, a matching white coffee machine, a large communal table in the front, and a linear bench and curvy seats along the remaining wall.
We sat on the two low seats, gazing out the glass window, the sounds of coffee grinding and milk steaming behind us. A flat white, a long black and a piece of banana cake kept us company. Strong, metallic coffee, and a sweet slice of cake made for two happy Londoners on a sunny Monday.
