Taqueria el Amanecer
Our first trip to Mexico exceeded all expectations: we ate the best tacos, drank many margaritas, spoke wobbly Spanish, chased iguanas, bought kilos of limes and avocados, soaked up the sunshine, and swung in hammocks.
We were in the Yucatán and split our week between the most magical townhouse in the city and a life of luxury at the beautiful Hacienda Temozon in the surrounding countryside. I'll share it all with you over the coming weeks (I would say days but that's not realistic). To start things off, let's talk about these tacos.
Buried in the heart of the city's main food market (Lucas de Galvez—and yes, there'll be a full post on this some time soon), are a selection of taco/restaurant stands. For no particular reason, our rumbling tummies selected Taqueria el Amanecer. We grabbed two stalls, ordered dos tacos por favor, and that was it. $1 later, the best breakfast was ours: double-layered fresh tortillas topped with juicy carne asada, fresh, bright guac, and soft, sweet onions. The choices here are basically torta (the sandwich option, below) or tacos. Luckily, there's no need for anything else. Needless to say, we went back for more, and yes, these are the best tacos I've ever had.
